About Us

I’m Sarah Hilwerda, the owner of the Cellar Door Winery in Brighton and like you, I’m passionate about wine.

I was raised locally in Smithfield and Frankford. At the age of 12 my family moved to Sacramento and that’s where I fell in love with grapes.

My roots are in small town Ontario however, and I returned here as young adult to attend Loyalist College. Shortly afterwards I met my husband.

In 2010 I was finally fully able to indulge my passion for grapes and wine when he and I bought the Brighton business “The Winery” and changed the name to “The Cellar Door.”

Over the last 10 years, I’ve been involved in every single batch of wine that has been made here. I take pleasure in what I do and I do it with great care. I like to think that in some small way it helps contribute to my clients’ happiness.

I’m also active in the local business community; I’m the president of Brighton’s Downtown Business Improvement Association (DBIA) and an active member in our local Chamber of Commerce.

If you love making your own wine and have a weakness for a friendly, small-town “vibe”, stop in and see me and the rest of my team… we’d love to help you on your wine making journey!
